First photos are a thermistor string, second set are for individual thermistor setups.

  • This is the copper tubing I found works well, available locally.
  • Here is a lot of several thermistors ready to be surrounded in epoxy (a messy step).
  • The copper tubes have been filled with epoxy like a cup. This flavor of epoxy has a lower viscosity than what you can find locally and is easier to pour. However, it takes much longer to cure.
  • Finally, a few other pictures. This picture shows an as-built direct-burial telephone, 12 pair thermistor string being placed in the ground. A hole was drilled but to go deeper we ended up digging a bit, too. Best practice would be just drill a deep hole.
  • Here is a nice photo of station armoring of Anna's site up in Barrow. Notice the flexible conduit proving some protection from animals.
  • This is generally a quick, easy, and cheap tripod set up for getting an instrument box off the ground. It can be installed almost anywhere. To keep it from tipping over, anchor the legs with screed stakes.
  • Another light/small/cheap station setup.
